It is only as right as the treatment records and the label data behind it — and a clean green verdict can hide a missing dose.
- It reads the records it is given; it cannot know a treatment was never logged. A gap in the chute-side record becomes a gap in the verdict.
- The binding date is only as good as the label data behind it — point it at an outdated or wrong product label and it can clear an interval that no longer holds, or apply one that does not apply to that product.
- Weak where a treatment does not resolve cleanly to a registered label — an off-label use, a compounded product, an unfamiliar trade name. It should flag for a person, not guess an interval.

A slaughter consignment carries residue and declaration obligations under the producer's LPA and NFAS accreditation, and the binding export interval is what keeps the meat inside the maximum residue limits of the destination market. One animal shipped under an active interval can taint a load, fail a residue test, and put the operation's market access at risk — the consequence lands on a named person, so that person stays on the decision.

The treatment records are usually the weak point — kept on paper, on a whiteboard, or in a system the chute reader does not talk to, so the history the tool reads is not the full history the animal actually has. Getting treatments captured against the right tag at the moment they are given, and the label clearances into current machine-readable form, is usually the real first job — larger and more valuable than the verdict layer on top. Once the records are complete and current, every draft after that is faster and right by default.
